As we come to the end of yet again a significantly challenging module, we celebrate the many successes and achievements of all the LAB community.
Students and staff across Airy college have shown once again the true meaning of resilience and ambition as they embarked on more weeks of online learning and, later, the transition back into the Academy, adjusting quickly to new routines and procedures to allow for a safe return. Indeed, how students and staff have adapted to wearing masks, as well as both regular onsite and, now, home testing has been phenomenal.
Unfortunately we were faced with sending two bubbles home to isolate following two cases. As always, students and staff took to the challenge and I am pleased to say that the extremely high engagement and quality of online learning continued to take place during this time for the vast majority of students, once again demonstrating high levels of scholarship despite another period of change.
A number of our students across Airy college have been invited to attend online catch up sessions over the holidays: both to consolidate foundational knowledge and address misconceptions, but also to stretch their conceptual understanding of topics previously taught. Staff have worked hard preparing resources for these and we know that those who have been invited to attend will find doing so most beneficial.
Meanwhile, all our students have been set a challenge to take part in a LAB-wide initiative with their families over this Easter Holiday. In this interdisciplinary project, students are being asked to design and manufacture their own board game that promotes our LAB values of Respect, Ambition, Scholarship, Integrity and Resilience. Details have been shared with all students via their tutor Google classroom.
Following our Airy tradition of celebrating our 'Student of the Week/ Fortnight', tutors have been nominating their tutees who have consistently demonstrated the LAB values - of Ambition, Integrity, Resilience, Scholarship and Respect. These students are celebrated and recognised by our college community. The wider Airy college team have then voted for the winning student.
Each student has received additional LAB Ambassador merits. The winning student receives a phone call home and is awarded a certificate and a student of the week badge that we are encouraging students to wear on their blazers!
Certificates and badges will be given to students when we all return to the Academy.

Please remember that the Airy college team is here to support you if you are finding things difficult at the moment. You are welcome to contact us. Please do not forget to check out our wellbeing page with some fantastic links to organisations, activities and suggestions to keep us all happy and healthy at this time. For any students wanting something extra to do during half term please do not forget to check out our LAB Explore pages for detail of competitions, tours and events that you can enjoy.
Module 5 will begin on Monday 19th April at the usual time. We would like to see all students with all equipment and in the correct LAB uniform. If you would like further details or clarification for what this is, please see the Academy website. Please be aware that, in recent weeks, we have introduced sanctions for lateness to school (there is much work to be done given the past year and so it is crucial that students arrive on time).
Finally, as you may be aware Mrs Donnelly, our Academy SENDCo and Assistant Principal for Airy College is sadly leaving us for her new role as Associate Principal for Cornerstone School. Airy staff and students would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Donnelly for her hard work and commitment.
Have a wonderful and restful holiday. We are looking forward to seeing the outcomes of the LAB Values board games!
Take care and be kind.
