Art

We are super impressed with the talented selection of outcomes produced by our students, whilst working remotely. The overwhelming majority have managed to make progress during a really challenging term: thereby consistently demonstrating the LAB value of ‘Resilience’. A huge thank you to all of you for your efforts; well done!

Y7s have now consolidated their knowledge of the Impressionism art movement. Each lesson they developed their skills and understandings further through a range of tasks. It was really lovely to see students embrace the MYP criterion, by thinking creatively, when having to adapt to approaches to learning from home. There are some stunning examples of work that students and parents/ carers should be really proud of. After half term, we will be looking in more depth at Post-Impressionism to further develop students' knowledge and understanding of 20th Century Art.

Yr 8 used the last bit of the module to focus solely on the MYP and how to integrate these principles into their own artistic practice. Students were provided with tasks that got them to think about how they learn and how they can adapt their way of working, to become better learners. We also organised some quizzes to give them an opportunity to demonstrate their strong knowledge of the Art Deco movement. After half term, we will be looking at American Modernism and how it shaped the Art world. Well done to all our students for being so resilient this module!

Yr 9 students will continue to look at Fauvism Art after half term. This module was about helping students deepen their knowledge of 20th century Art movements so that they could make comparisons with previously learnt topics. Throughout, students have been encouraged to respond to briefs in the style of Fauve Artists. Increasingly, this year is about encouraging our students to be independent practitioners, ready for the GCSE course that lies ahead!

Y9 Intervention

We also wanted to take this opportunity to share our appreciation for students' efforts and engagement with the Arts intervention thus far. During these difficult circumstances students have managed to create some really innovative and exciting, high-level responses! The exploration and experimentation some have shown has been mind-blowing!

We could not fit them all in the newsletter, so have a nosey here: https://sites.google.com/leighacademyblackheath.org.uk/labart/y9-intervention?authuser=0

Finally, we have some exciting projects coming, so to all of our students... do enjoy your fortnight off and be ready to start module 5!
