This has been, perhaps, the strangest module in the oddest academic year of our lifetime: with half of it being delivered remotely, and our return interrupted on occasion with mass onsite testing.
As has become almost trite, our students have adapted with resilience and integrity throughout: diligently working from home, calmly returning to school and taking tests without fuss or complaint.
Much has been made in the media of the negative effects on our young people’s mental health as a result of the Covid-19, but such reporting - whilst important - sometimes threatens to do a disservice to the young people in our care: who we have watched mature greatly over the past year: in being a part of history, understanding the sometimes brutal nature of life, and in recognising those things that are more important than any single individual.
I am proud to say that, since their return to school, students in Sancho have continued to lead by example. As a result, we as a college have the highest number of conduct points across the entire academy and the lowest number of sanctions.
Please know that a number of students across the college have been invited to attend catchup sessions over the holidays: both to consolidate foundational knowledge and address misconceptions, but also to stretch their conceptual understanding of topics previously taught. Staff have worked hard preparing resources for these and we know that those who have been invited to attend will find doing so extremely beneficial.
Module 5 will begin on Monday 19th April at the usual time. Please be aware that, in recent weeks, we have introduced sanctions for lateness to school (there is much work to be done given the past year and so it is crucial that students to arrive on time).
In the meantime, we wish you and your family a restful Easter break, filled with laughter and lots of chocolate!
