Fawcett

As we approach the end of this Module and the beginning of Spring, we have a good opportunity to reflect upon what has been a very difficult and strange few months. We have spent part of this module working remotely and part returning to school: getting used to routines as well as regular lateral flow testing.

One thing that has been consistent across this module has been the resilient and mature approach towards these challenges shown by all LAB students and all Fawcett students. We are incredibly proud of every student’s achievement during these challenging months.

The last year has asked an incredible amount of us all. From learning remotely, to testing ourselves for COVID-19, to wearing a facemask in lessons all day. Every Fawcett student has risen to these challenges and this has meant that staff and students have been able to focus on learning and supporting each other.

Please remember that the Fawcett college team is here to support you if you are having any difficulties with your online learning or if you are finding things difficult at the moment. You are welcome to contact us. Please do not forget to check out our wellbeing page with some fantastic links to organisations, activities and suggestions to keep us all happy and healthy at this time. For any students wanting something extra to do during half term please do not forget to check out our LAB Explore pages for details of competitions, tours and events that you can enjoy.

All students have been set a challenge to take part in a LAB wide initiative with their families over this Easter Holiday. In this interdisciplinary project, students are asked to design and manufacture their own board game that promotes our LAB values of Respect, Ambition, Scholarship, Integrity and Resilience. Details have been shared with all students via the tutor Google classrooms. We are really excited to see what designs they come up with!

A number of students have also been invited to attend online catch up sessions over the holidays: both to consolidate foundational knowledge and address misconceptions, but also to stretch their conceptual understanding of topics previously taught. Staff have worked hard preparing resources for these and we know that those who have been invited to attend will find doing so really beneficial.

Module 5 will begin on Monday 19th April at the usual time. We would like to see all students with all equipment and in the correct LAB uniform. Please be aware that, in recent weeks, we have introduced sanctions for lateness to school (there is much work to be done given the past year and so it is crucial that students arrive on time).

Thank you for your continued support throughout the past module. I hope that you are able to spend time with your loved ones over the Easter break with plenty of sunshine and hopefully chocolate too.

Student of the Week Nominations:

This week we will celebrate every student with excellent engagement and we have one overall winner. All of the students listed below have demonstrated resilience, scholarship and resilience. We know how difficult working remotely is and that over the weeks it gets harder to motivate yourself. I am so proud that we can celebrate so many students who have done so well. Everyone listed below will receive certificates of ambition, integrity and scholarship.

Our winner is........

Sara in 8A ................

for displaying a huge amount of resilience and scholarship since her return to school. Well done!

Well done!

Don’t forget that there will be a celebration breakfast for all of our winners when we are back to school.

Do look out for examples of exceptional student work on the other pages in this newsletter. Each department has collated pieces of work which they feel are definitely deserving of recognition.

Final Words

I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents and carers for your continued support and your own resilience during this difficult period. We have enjoyed being able to speak with you during our check in calls and emails and we look forward to continuing these after the half term break. Below you will find some links to free activities that your child(ren) may wish to explore during the half term. Please do get in touch with us, your child’s tutor or the College Leadership team if you have any questions about remote learning or your child’s wellbeing and personal development whilst they are learning at home.

Thank you once again,

The Fawcett Team
