Computing

Year 7 & 8

Continuing on from our work (in binary) previously this module, the year 7s and 8s have learnt what is meant by the term ‘data representation’ and how we can use binary to represent all sorts of different information. They have been learning about the systems that have been put in place to make binary most efficient when it comes to representing different characters, with most of our students now being able to translate binary numbers into English words using the ASCII table to help them.

Year 9

Following on from previous lessons, which focused on learning about data representation and how to represent different characters using the ASCII table, year 9s have learnt about how we use binary numbers to represent digital images. They have been translating binary strings into bitmap images and some have even taken their learning further by designing their own hero and villain for a Gameboy game, through the encoding of images in binary.
