Year 7

Year 7 have been making their own stop motion films. We have researched existing stop motion work and, with the help with Pixar (and their advice on storytelling), we have designed storyboards that present a personal link to each of our students. Utilising their self management skills, these films have been produced at home (thank you to those at home who have helped with filming!) and our students have presented some fantastic outcomes.

We have been very busy in Design and technology with some mini projects!

Year 8

On the Move- Foam Modelling:

Inspired by biomimicry, we have challenged our Y8 students to design a product that could transport people or products using wind power. We have worked on developing sketches by practising 3D sketching and rendering. We have also had the opportunity to do some foam modelling as this is a great material to use in a COVID-safe way. Students have been able to use basic hand tools to develop their practical skills. We have had some great work produced and the students have thoroughly enjoyed our practical lessons! When we return after Easter, we look forward to starting our food module: researching and designing street food in our brand new kitchen.

Year 9

Y9 Design a Chair Challenge:

Year 9 have been introduced to a myriad of new designers and design movements, with the ambition of designing a chair inspired by one of these. Said designs will be produced in the form of foam models and we look forward to our year 9 students further developing their practical skills in this way. The students have been working on some investigative research through the everyday chairs we use and their designs. We hope to share lots of Pop art and Bauhaus- inspired Chair designs in the next edition of the newsletter.
