Yearbook Manaʻo
"As a whole, the students of Kamehameha Schools are expected to move forward and complete tasks to the best of their ability. This year's theme of Hoʻomau, or perseverance, explores this expectancy to look forward and keep climbing the summit of possibilities. Prior to our campus opening its doors in 2001, the district of Puna was a thriving community that embraced the presence of Kamehameha Schools. We are here now and have become a part of this dynamic community, moving forward with our mission of creating intergenerational change for Hawaiian families. With our cherished Hawaiʻi campus sprawling over 300 acres of land once owned by the first elected monarch, we have the honor of serving our children not only from the east side of the island but from Kaʻū, Kona, Kohala, and Hāmākua as well.
In my eight years of serving as your Headmaster, I have had the privilege of watching our children blossom from childhood to adolescence to adulthood. This year, we will proudly send forth our fourth graduating class with blessings and hope that they continue to serve the community as good and industrious men and women." - Dr. Fortuna, Jr., Headmaster
"The value of Hoʻomau reminds me that as we go through life, there will be challenges and hardships which call us all to persevere and to continue to move forward. Challenges build character, and perseverance builds integrity and strength. Our beloved Princess Pauahiu practices the value of Hoʻomau in her own life as she witnessed the demise of her native Hawaiian people. She understood through the struggle of acclimating into Western society that the gift of education would be the greatest asset to help her people move forward and succeed. Kamehameha Schools stands strong and will continue to move forward to provide the very best education to our native Hawaiian children." - Mrs. Aldrich, High School Principal
"The theme speaks of us striving to perpetuate our rich culture, which makes us ever so unique from the rest of the world, but which also binds us all together as one here at Kamehameha and throughout the islands. Our families, our religion, and our values are all shaped by our past experiences and help guide us through life. I also feel that the theme reflects the promise of helping better ourselves as Hawaiians and as people in general. Our faculty and staff are committed to helping develop and guide our students toward excellence, both in the academic setting and in the game of life. It is a hope of ours that the experiences here at Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi will help prepare and motivate our graduates to continue the legacy of our Princess in helping our Hawaiian people become a vibrant community in this world." - Mr. Aganus, High School Vice Principal
