Mai Ka Lā I Haʻehaʻe a Hālīʻi I Ka Mole O Lehua
From the appearance of the sun at Haʻehaʻe till it spreads its light to the foundation of the Lehua.
This year, Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi Campus will graduate its first-ever senior class, the class of 2006. This year, we focus on the "light" of Ke Akua and the many ways He shines upon our campus. We strive to carry forth this light of knowledge, aloha, and perseverance both on and off our campus and into our future, not only as Kamehameha Schools students and faculty but as people.
"Our first year as a K-12 educational community has been extraordinarily special and has served to inspire us, to further ground us in an understanding of the goodness of Pauahi and that which she did for her people. It has been extraordinary in many ways, including the fact that our campus is now complete with our first senior class, Eva! Nearly 120 years have passed since the Kamehameha Schools for Boys opened, and now you have been the beneficiaries of the largesse that is a Kamehameha education on the Big Island, Kamehameha Schools Hawaiʻi Campus.
As I stand within the completed high school quadrangle, I am inspired. My eyes are drawn upward to. the peaks of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, and indeedto the heavens beyond, I can only think of the flory that is Ke Akua's and the opportunities that are yours, the opportunities that are ours. The theme for this year serves to underscore these opportunities, made available to thousands of Hawaiian children over the years by the legacy of Mrs. Bishop. Mahalo for a year made special by your commitment to Ke Akua, to family, to county, to Kamehameha. This commitment was exemplified in any of a number of venues, from the volleyball court to the soccer and football fields, to the stage of this year's Hōʻike, to the classrooms, and everywhere in between.
This is my fifth year as your Headmaster; it is with great pride that I serve as your first Headmaster, supporting your efforts to become only the finest of Hawaiian men and women! We need you. With the legal challenges of "Doe" now facing us, it is a time requiring great courage and, indeed, prayer. Your nascent leadership holds hope for ALL Hawaiians, and for that, I am proud, optimistic, and grateful to be part of your supporting case of your crew. May the winds continue to be at your backs as you continue your Kamehameha voyage into the future!"
