Lori Vallow's children, Tylee and J.J., were last seen in September 2019. Lori had reportedly withdrawn them from school to be homeschooled shortly after. In November 2019 when Lori married Chad Daybell, her children were noticeably absent from the wedding. A week later, J.J.'s grandmother asked police to do a wellfare check on her grandson, during which Lori told police her son was in Arizona visiting a family friend, Melanie Gibb. At first, Gibb backed up the story, but later she told police she had lied at the request of Lori. In February 2020, Lori was arrested for abandoning her children who hadn't yet been located. After remains were found on Chad Daybell's property, Chad and Lori Daybell were charged with the murders of Tylee and J.J. in May 2021. Lori was originally found incompetent to stand trial, but her competence has recently been said to be restored. A new trial date has not been set, but she plead not guilty to the crimes.
