Challenge Objectives:

To design a robot and its programming to complete a maze.

Challenge Outcomes:

ALL students will:

Design a robot which can complete the assigned maze - this sketch may not be clear about individual components
Design a flowchart which can complete half of the assigned maze - this may be missing individual steps

MOST students will:

Design a robot which can complete the assigned maze - the sketches will include some detail on its components
Design a flowchart which can complete half of the assigned maze - this will include most steps necessary

SOME students may:

Design a robot which can complete the assigned maze - the sketches will include all detail on gears, motors, wires, wheels etc.
Design a flowchart which can complete half of the assigned maze - this will include all necessary steps and include detail on approximate motor power, duration etc.

Introduction to the challenge:

It is your objective to get your robot from the start line to the finish line without hitting any walls. You must also complete the mandatory ball challenges in the maze.

Your teacher will brief you on the layout of the maze.

To prevent everyone crowding at the start line, half of you will go from Finish > Start, the other half will go from Start > Finish. Your teacher will tell you which route your robot will take.

Part 1: Design

A) Sketch (2 points)

In your robotics planning pad, create TWO annotated sketches from different angles of the device you wish to build

Remember to annotate the following:

Gears
Major components
Potential movement

B) Flowchart (2 points)

Create a flowchart displaying your devices functionality

Remember to include the following:

Detail on the movement (approximate rotations, degrees, seconds, power)

No decisions are necessary as you will not be using sensors.

Grading:

Part 1 - Design:

Detailed and annotated sketch: 2 points

Detailed and correct flowchart: 2 points

Creative final design: 2 points

TOTAL: 6 points

Rounding up the challenge:

Make sure your MS Rover Robotics Online Portfolio is clearly labelled and every image is a suitable size.
