Challenge: Heavy Lifting
RESEARCH & PLANNING
RESEARCH & PLANNING
To research various heavy lifting devices and their benefits.
To design a device which can lift 1kg
ALL students will: Identify where heavy lifting devices are used and a basic plan sketched
MOST students will: Describe where heavy lifting devices are used and sketch a detailed plan
SOME students may: Describe where and how heavy lifting devices are used and sketch a detailed plan including annotations
Below are just a few examples of how heavy items can be lifted.
A) Where are heavy lifting robots used in the real world? Describe one industry and its specific use
B) Provide one photo of heavy lifting device
C) Discuss at least two benefits of using heavy lifting devices, rather than humans attempting to do the same job
Remember to put these on your MS Rover Robotics Online Portfolio
IMPORTANT RULES FOR THIS CHALLENGE:
The device does not need to move around
You will lift at least 1kg
You cannot use treads
The weight cannot be permanently attached to anything
The lifting process will begin with the trigger of a sensor and end with another type of sensor
You will need to lift the weight at least 30cm vertically
A) Sketch
In your robotics planning pad, create an annotated sketch of the device you wish to build.
Remember to annotate the following:
Gears
Major components (motors, wires, brain brick)
Potential movement
Make sure your MS Rover Robotics Online Portfolio is clearly labelled and every image is a suitable size.
