To design a robot which can travel 10 meters in 5 seconds
ALL students will: Successfully design and build a device which is geared up
MOST students will: Successfully design and build a device which travels faster than a standard Lego Mindstorm motor
SOME students may: Successfully design and build a device which travels faster than a standard Lego Mindstorm motor and in straight line.
Gear up: This is when the driver gear is larger than the driven gear. This will increase speed but decrease torque.
Project Overview:
A standard Lego Mindstorm device with no gears can travel 10 meters in approximately 20 seconds.
Your task is to create a device that can travel 5 meters in 5 seconds. Welcome to gears!
You may use maximum 2 large motors and 1 medium motor.
The device must be activated by a touch sensor.
Your code must run for 5 seconds, maximum.
a) In your robotics planning pad, create two annotated sketches of the device you wish to build
b) Create a flowchart displaying your devices functionality - remember to include decisions if your device has sensors
c) Explain your idea to your partner. You are now to choose between both ideas to build.
a) Build your device - the device must be similar to the plan (small changes are allowed)
Things to note:
The lighter the device, the quicker it will go
The thinner the wheels, the less friction there is on the surface
a) Program the device.
You must ensure the devices functionality is similar to what was planned in Part 1.
a) Now is the time to test that your device works!
Move on to the evaluation.
