Challenge:

TESTING & PERFORMANCE

Challenge Objectives:

To build an robot animal which replicates an existing (or existed) animal which reacts to its own environment.

Challenge Outcomes:

ALL students will: Create a device which somewhat replicates an existing animal

MOST students will: Create a device which shares many similarities to an existing animal, this will include one element which reacts to its own environment

SOME students may: Create a device which clearly replicates an existing animal, it will include two elements which react to its own environment (including movement and sound).

Time to test your device and make any suitable changes. Remember to document those changes in your website!

Main Activities:

Part 4: Test

a) Now is the time to test that your device works

b) Discuss with your partner about the devices performance and make any small changes which may be necessary

c) Your teacher will formally assess your devices performance (see grading rubric below)

d) Place a video of your device doing its job on your portfolio (1 point)

Grading:

Performance:

Your device must 'replicate' an existing animal in some form (it's okay to make your own version of that animal): 4 points

Your device must have two elements which make the robot react to it's environment (e.g. shake it's tail when it sees a red bone) through the use of two different sensors: 4 points

At least two different elements of your device must output movement: 4 points

Your device must make a noise similar to the animal you are replicating - this sound must be triggered by a sensor: 2 points

Video of your device doing its job: 1 point

Effort and participation: Up to 5 points

Total: 20 points

Rounding up the challenge:

Make sure your MS Rover Robotics Online Portfolio is clearly labelled and every image is a suitable size.
