Challenge: Remote Controlled Football
PLANNING
PLANNING
To build a remote controlled device which can play football in a 2v2 game.
ALL students will: Research the industry where remote controlled devices are used and plan their own device by creating a basic sketch and flowchart
MOST students will: Research the industry and use of RC devices in the real world and create a detailed sketch and flowchart for their own device
SOME students may: Research the industry, use and advantages of RC devices and sensor controlled devices in the real world. They will also create an annotated sketch and flowchart for their own device.
You need to build a device which can competitively compete in a 2v2 football match.
Your device must perform two different actions with the ball. E.g. be able to 'push' the ball and 'kick' it.
You must use 2 large motors and 1 medium motor.
You must use two different types of controls using the Commander app.
Games will last 3 minutes. (1 minute 30 secs per driver).
You are only allowed to use parts from the lego kits.
A) Excluding toys, where are remote controlled devices used in the real world? Explain the industry and specific use (2 points)
B) Provide a photo/video of an existing device (1 point)
C) Discuss at least two benefits of using a remote controlled device, compared to using sensors (2 points)
D) Discuss at least two benefits of using sensors, compared to using a remote controlled device (2 points)
Remember to put these on your MS Rover Robotics Online Portfolio
IMPORTANT PERFORMANCE INFORMATION:
A) Sketch (2 points)
In your robotics planning pad, create an annotated sketch of the device you wish to build.
Remember to annotate the following:
B) Flowchart (2 points)
Download the EV3 commander app and see which different types of controls there are.
Create a flowchart displaying your devices functionality
Remember to include the following:
Part 1 - Real World
Detailed explanation on real world use: 2 points
Photo/video: 1 point
Discuss two benefits of remote controlled device: 2 points
Discuss two benefits of using sensors: 2 points
Part 2 - Design:
Detailed and annotated sketch: 2 points
Detailed and correct flowchart: 2 points
Creative final design: 2 points
TOTAL: 13 points
Make sure your MS Rover Robotics Online Portfolio is clearly labelled and every image is a suitable size.
