#1. Have daily check points.
#2. Utilize a detailed agenda so students can manage their workload and expectations. Here is the website I shared with students and families. https://sites.google.com/bedford.k12.oh.us/mrskirin/home
#3. Communicate expectations to families (see link above).
#4. Tie online learning to the professional setting. For example, in my Digital Marketing class, I had the students listen to professional podcasts that were crafted by marketers discussing the impact of Covid-19 on digital advertising budgets. Students then broke down the podcasts on their personal websites.
#5. Videos with reactions - I posted video all of the time even explaining my weekly agendas. However, there needs to be an assessment to the videos. I found that if I posted a video, I also needed a post a question for students to answer to assess whether they were watching my videos.
Working with DECA students:
CTSOs are about more than just knowledge gathering. We know our CTSOs help to develop our students professionally, socially and emotionally. Nothing replaces live events and competitions; however, in a remote environment, consider these alternatives:
1. Hold weekly online meetings and have some fun with this! Have a theme each week where students will make it a point to attend.
2. Create a system of house points where groups of students can compete against each other in virtual scavenger hunts.
3. Promote professional development with online seminars such as discussions from professionals in the field.
4. Develop online competitions. Click here to watch our virtual Shark Tank competition!

Working with Advisory Members:
I have found that online meetings with advisory committee members is actually fairly easy to do. As with online meetings, be sure to have an agenda and specifically have a call to action for members so they know how they can contribute on the meeting.
