Q: I don’t have a teaching license but would like to teach CTE, what program do I take?
A: The 24 credit hour (8 courses) program.
Q: I currently hold a K-12 teaching license but would like to get a license to teach CTE, what program best fits my needs?
A: The 12 credit hour (3-4 courses) program.
Q: I already have a master’s degree but don’t have a teaching license. Do I still need to take the full program?
A: This will depend on the courses you took for the graduate degree. Speak to an advisor to determine if any of your previous coursework applies.
Q: How do I get started on taking the licensure courses?
A: Apply for admission to Kent State University, and once admitted, you can register for classes.
Q: How long does the 24 credit hour licensure program take?
A: Two years
Q: How long does the 12 credit hour program take to complete?
A: One year
Q: What time during the day are the licensure course offered?
A: Our licensure courses are offered face-to-face (in the evenings) with some sessions online during the regular semesters, fall (August to December), Spring (January to May), and summer (June-August).
Q: What time of the day are the CTE courses offered?
A: All CTE licensure courses are offered as hybrid, that is, a combination of face-to-face and online sessions. The face-to-face sessions are offered in the evenings (4:30 -7:05pm)
Q: How long is the CTE licensure program or CBI endorsement program?
A: This depends on the licensure program. The initial Career-Technical Workforce Development license takes approximately two years to complete the coursework. The supplemental license and CBI endorsement programs take one year to complete the coursework.
Q: Can I stop taking classes for a semester or year?
A: Yes (Note: If you do not take classes for one consecutive academic year, you will have to reapply to the program and restart the process from the beginning. You will also need to confirm you will have enough credits to renew your license.)
Q: What happens if I do not complete the licensure program within the duration of the program?
A: You are eligible to apply for a renewal of your initial license provided you have completed at least half of the required coursework.
Q: What does GPA stand for?
