Traditional Steps for New CTE Teachers
Your district completes the CTE 37 Initial form and sends it to us DMupinga@kent.edu.
We sign off on the CTE 37 Initial and send it back to you.
We ask your new teacher complete this quick onboarding form. This helps us capture all their information and support their introduction to the program.
You keep a copy of the CTE 37 Initial form.
Your teacher applies for a temporary license via the state's CORE portal. Here is a link to help your teachers navigate CORE.
Orientation and transition courses begin in July. However, this same course is offered in the fall. It is HIGHLY recommend new teachers enroll in the July course. This helps them prepare for their first day of class.
Share this website with your new CTE teacher. It is filled with resources just for them!
What can you do to help your new CTE teachers?
Reach out to us as soon as you know you have a new hire. The evidence is clear, teachers enrolled in the summer course are better prepared for the start of school.
Stay in contact with us. If you have a need, let us know. If there are challenges and success stories, let us know.
Encourage your new teachers to observe veteran teachers. This is a requirement in our In-Service class. CTE teachers need to observe and network successful CTE teachers.
Give your new teachers time and resources for CTE professional development. This includes conferences and courses at KSU.
Make sure you know the complexities of CTE: advisory committees, CTSOs, Webxams, equipment. If you need some help on these topics, let us know.
Support your CTE teachers' programs including their CTSOs. Your CTE teacher is going to need to go to CTSO conferences, hold advisory committees, and attend nontraditional meetings.
