If you are not being hired by a school district, please contact Dr. Davison Mupinga (dmupinga@kent.edu), CTTE Program Coordinator, to discuss your potential program path.
If you are being hired by a school district, you will need to apply for a CTE Teaching License.
Instructions for Applying for the CTE Licensure
License Step 1: Creating an OH|ID Account
Visit the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) website (https://safe.ode.state.oh.us/portal) and create an OH|ID account and profile. This account enables you to apply for a provisional license. Please keep your sign-on and password information as you will need this information to sign into the website when you contact the Ohio Department of Education. The Educator State ID will be obtained from this website and will be used in Step 2 of this process.
Step 2: Completing the CTE-37: INITIAL (This form MUST be signed ELECTRONICALLY.)
The CTE-37: INITIAL form is initiated by the school district for beginning teachers. The form should be signed by the applicant and the school superintendent before emailing it to Carol Heller (cheller1@kent.edu) at KSU. The CTE-37: INITIAL form can be obtain here: https://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Career-Tech/start-a-new-cte-program/CTE-Teacher-Prep-and-Licensure
Guidelines for Completing the CTE-37: INITIAL Form
Complete Last Name, First Name and Educator State ID (obtained in Step 1 above) on the form’s first row.
Check the first box if you are going to apply for the INITIAL 2-Year CTWD License (24 credit hour program).
Check the second box if you are applying for an INITIAL 1-year Supplemental CTWD License (12 credit hour program or CBI endorsement).
NOTE: The third box for 5-Year Advanced CTWD Educator License is not an option for beginning teachers.
In the Teaching Field(s) and Endorsement(s) section use the drop-down box to select which teaching field(s) you are interested in.
The applicant (beginning teacher) signs and dates the form.
The superintendent or designee completes, signs and dates the School Employment Verification portion of the form.
Email the completed and signed form to Carol Heller (cheller1@kent.edu), CTTE Administrative Assistant, at KSU for the university’s signature.
After the university signs to acknowledge that you have been accepted into a CTWD licensure or endorsement program, this form is returned to the beginning teacher. Using the OH|ID account created in Step 1, the beginning teacher will upload the form to the ODE Portal (https://safe.ode.state.oh.us/portal) to apply for the selected temporary teaching license or endorsement.
ODE Service by Phone assists beginning teachers with uploading their CTE-37 Initial form. We highly recommend using this service to ensure forms are submitted correctly and the appropriate licensure/program options are selected. Beginning teachers must have their OH|ID account information and a computer with a live Internet connection to use during the phone call. ODE Service by Phone is available 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday through Friday at 877-644-6338. Please listen carefully to the recorded message and select the appropriate number prompt for the option of Educator Licensure or the option of Customer Service to reach a representative.
