February 2026 - Part 2
Mrs. Maldonado
This month zoomed past, but our Ela Learning Lab students showed up with incredible focus and energy. We kicked things off celebrating Black History Month by diving into the inspiring story of the Freedom House Ambulance Service, the trailblazing first Black paramedic unit in the U.S.
From there, we fluttered into the world of monarch butterflies, learning about their epic migrations and amazing life cycle. We wrapped up with a touching teen story about navigating life with learning differences, sparking great conversations about resilience, strengths, and self-advocacy.
Proud of every step our students took this month. Here’s to March bringing even more growth and discovery! 🦋📚
Mr. Matsushita
The yearbook students have been working very hard to finish up the book. With about 5 weeks left before the deadline, the students are doing their best to visit classrooms and design the yearbook. Please help us congratulate Flora Tuinei (8th Grade) for designing a beautiful title cover for this years book! We are very proud for the creative efforts the students are putting into this book.
Mr. Falzarano
Third Quarter is just flying by! Seventh graders are busy working on their Pollinator Challenge. Sixth graders are determining how much energy is in a cheeseball. Eighth graders are assembling their Wind Turbines and will soon be testing them.

Mr. Morimoto
In February, 6th graders completed their SMART goal unit and began the self-awareness unit before embarking upon their final project. 7th graders doing class presentations on a leader of their choice, and 8th graders have been busy with the StuCo Valentine's Day store and creating posts for the StuCo instagram account.
Mr. Otaka
We had a busy middle of the quarter! We learned about how machine learning works, and got to create a simple machine learning model to distinguish between images. 6th graders also got to work with Ozobot Evo robots; 7th graders learned to design simple architectural models on Sketchup; and 8th graders had the option to learn Python or Javascript on Khan Academy. We also got to work with Microbits, and did a simple mapping project on campus. At the end of January, we also had a special guest- Willow Otaka, Mr. Otaka's daughter, a recent graduate of UC Berkeley in Art and Data Science. She did a lesson on 2D art with the students!
