It's been busy, busy, busy in Home Ec and Teen Health...please forgive the lack of photos! Home Ec students completed their sewing projects and are currently working on passing their kitchen safety test. Teen Health students are using their knowledge and creativity to create counter ads for an alcohol/vape/cigarette advertisement to show how these products can harm a person.

Students are hard at work to present a Winter Concert on Thursday, December 11, at the WMS Auditorium at 6:00 pm. There will be a wide range of music performed! We will be singing both a traditional Latin and a Korean language piece in addition to some Christmas carols that you know and love. We hope everyone will attend!

This month we concluded our study of geography by focusing on its true definition: understanding how humans interact with the Earth's landscape and how this connection shapes agriculture. Students worked in groups to research and present why different biomes are unique and important. We then learned effective research practices that students used to create timelines on agriculture topics of their choice. Finally, we combined everyone's work into a collaborative timeline covering major developments from the Neolithic Revolution to modern AI-driven agricultural technology.
Compost update:

This month, all grade levels learned about machine learning and artificial intelligence. Students were part of a very rudimentary demonstration of how a neural network works. They learned about how bias could affect the training, and thus the performance, of machine learning models. Students also created simple machine learning models of their own, that could differentiate between images or poses. Students learned about generative AI with respect to art production, and took an ethical stance on the issue. Grade 6 then worked with Ozobots; Grade 7 used Sketchup to create 3D models of cabins and other buildings; and Grade 8 progressed in learning the fundamentals of the Swift programming language. Most recently, all grade levels learned to program microbits, and use them to capture data on campus. We then mapped the data using ArcGIS, so that we could analyze patterns in trash/graffiti and the presence of feral chickens and cats. Busy month! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
