Career and technical education (CTE) students are encouraged to participate in a career and technical student organization (CTSO). CTSOs are student-led organizations designed to provide students with opportunities to acquire and hone critical occupational skills, including public speaking and leadership. CTSO activities are co-curricular, not extra-curricular. Career preparation and practicum teachers are expected to integrate CTSO activities into classroom instruction.
Students enrolled in the Culinary Arts program of study will have the opportunity to participate in SkillsUSA. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers, and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA provides a structured program of leadership development, personal growth, and career success activities including numerous opportunities for students to demonstrate their expertise and gain recognition for their skills.
In addition to competitions, SkillsUSA fosters networking and career exploration, enabling students to connect with industry professionals and potential employers. SkillsUSA emphasizes the development of employability skills, such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, which are crucial for success in any career. Through its comprehensive program, SkillsUSA ensures that students not only gain technical proficiency but also develop the leadership and interpersonal skills needed to thrive.
