School closures can occur for a variety of reasons, and often at short notice (e.g. flooding, demonstrations, terrorist threat, health emergencies.). In the event of a a school closure the expectation is that quality learning for students is maintained.
If closure occurs the guidelines are as follows:
Our aim with online learning:
Teachers and students continue their teaching/learning of the curriculum content to the best of their ability through virtual support, realistic time-bound tasks, and high-quality feedback.
In practice, this means the following:
Online classes will be synchronous and on Google Meet.
Access to Google Meet, and Assignments will take place through Google Classroom as normal
Students should use their school laptop to access Google Meet. If this is not possible for any reason, Meet can also be accessed with a tablet or a phone. If trying to attend class using these other devices, students will need to install both the Google Classroom and Meet apps into their phones/tablet, then log into both apps with their school email.
We will follow our normal face to face daily schedule when online.
Virtual classes will run for a minimum of 30 minutes and a maximum of 60 minutes.
Google Meet links are found in Google Classroom.
Attendance will be taken for all virtual lessons as with face to face.
Lessons
To attend all virtual synchronized classes according to the students schedule/divisional schedule--Attendance will be taken.
*If students are unwell or for any other reason unable to participate in the day’s classes, parents should notify the school, as they would any regular school absence (student absence form). Students are required to email teachers to find out missed work.
To log onto their synchronized classes on time via the Google Meet link located in Google Classroom and stay online for the full time required as directed by the teacher. See below for more Google Meet guidelines.
Access the asynchronous recordings/lessons if residing outside of Jakarta and working within the remote Home and Online learning program in a timely manner.
Routines for Success
Establish daily routines for engaging in the synchronized lessons and learning experiences.
Identify a comfortable, quiet space in the home where they can work effectively and successfully.
Regularly monitor online platforms to check for information, announcements, assignments, resources and feedback from teachers. This includes platforms such as Google Classroom and JIS Email.
Work and Assignments
Complete all assignments while embracing all aspects of JIS’ academic honesty expectations.
Ensure work is completed and assignments are submitted on time in accordance with teachers’ expectations, timelines and due dates.
Digital Citizenship and Use of Technology
Practice digital citizenship.
Ensure all digital work is regularly backed up to external locations such as Google Drive, an external hard drive, or a cloud-based storage system.

Proactively seek out and communicate with other adults at JIS as different needs arise (see below)
Seek assistance through the Helpdesk (helpdesk@jisedu.or.id) and/or Ms Matias, the MS Technology Integration Specialist.
Self-Directed Learning and The 4 R’s
Embrace the JIS 4 R’s--We will learn by reflecting and relating and being resourceful and resilient.
Work to find solutions and seek help when necessary.
Collaborate and support your JIS peers in their learning
Students are expected to:
Accept all calendar invites for the classes/lessons in advance.
Be on time for the Google Meet class lesson.
Keep cameras turned on and in clear view while classes are in session.
Be present for the entire lesson. Students should inform the teacher in advance if they must “leave the room” for a moment or early.
Click "Use microphone and camera" so people can see and hear you in class.
Video Lesson Etiquette
Consider the learning space and setting--A quiet, well-lit and comfortable space, such as at a table or desk, is appropriate.
Position themselves in the middle of the screen.
Look into the camera when speaking.
Ensure they are free distractions and external noises (ie. siblings, TV, phones)
Wear clothes that are class appropriate--and meet JIS dress code policies.
Avoid eating during class time. Drink water!
As with all learning both on and off campus at JIS our Child Safeguarding Policies and procedures continue to guide our practice. Please refer to the Child Safeguarding Policy page. The following guidelines have been created to support our educational practice within the Home and Online learning environment:
When communicating digitally with students, only JIS approved modes of communication may be used (Google Classroom, JIS email accounts, etc).
Teachers and students will not be permitted to use personal accounts or social media (including WhatsApp) for any direct contact or communication.
