Dear Students and Parents,
Welcome to the Middle School campus of Jakarta Intercultural School. I look forward to working with you in my role as Middle School Principal. This Middle School Handbook represents just one of the ways we aim to provide important information and support, in order to enable you to succeed with the transitions you will make during this school year.
A special welcome to all new students to the Middle School. Over the past five years I have fallen in love with JIS and the people of Indonesia. I am sure you will feel the same. Our Middle School community prides itself in its ability to welcome new and returning members and above all, we will all make each other feel welcome and valued.
JIS has so much to offer! This handbook is designed to help you learn about and navigate through, our rich and varied academic programs, support systems, faculty contacts, expectations, and opportunities. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the material contained within – it will significantly help you as a member of our community. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if there are questions that remain unanswered by this handbook.
It is an honour to serve this community and I look forward to what I know will be a great year.
All the best,
Mr. Noah Bohnen
Middle School Principal
All members of the JIS community are responsible for nurturing a safe school environment where all students and employees are treated with respect and dignity and are free from intimidation and harassment. JIS is committed to educating staff, students, and parents to develop positive relationships to ensure everyone’s right to learn and work in a safe environment. All students, school employees, vendors, and visitors (including parents) to campus buildings, buses, athletic fields or locations off campus involving school-related activities (i.e., field trips) are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that adds positive value to relationships. JIS will reject language that “attacks, threatens, or insults a person based on actual or perceived national origin, ethnicity, race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability.”* *Merriam-Webster dictionary.
All members of the JIS community are expected to engage in value-added interactions. Any form of harassment is considered to be a non value-added interaction. The MS considers harassment to be a situation when someone is repeatedly and significantly hurt by the actions of others, fears that the behaviors will happen again, and feels powerless to prevent the behaviors from happening. It may be subtle or easy to identify, done by one person or a group.
