The Bus Handbook, given to all bus riders, explains behaviour that must be followed while riding the bus. If a student misbehaves while on a school bus, they will be referred to the Middle School Office. Consequences for inappropriate bus behaviour may include the suspension of bus riding privileges.
Bicycles are allowed on campus, but their use is restricted to the main access roadways. Bicycles may not be ridden in the interior of the Cilandak and PIE campuses and never on walkways. Helmets must be worn at all times. Bike riders must use the designated bike racks and recognize that their bicycles are stored at their own risk.
Skateboards and roller skates/blades are not allowed on campus.
Middle School students may be on campus between 7:15 am-3:15 pm.
The Middle School expects students engaged in activities outside of school hours to be:-
Participating in a school activity
Reading or studying in the library or a classroom supervised by a teacher
Waiting in an assigned area for transportation
Attending as a spectator in an after school activity
Located in a public place e.g., basketball courts, gym etc.
Students are to be off campus by 3:15 pm Monday through Friday. Exceptions include:-
Students who are participating in an after-school activity or event
Students who are participating in a community-sponsored activity on the fields or in the gym
Students who are watching an activity beyond 3.30 pm must be in the area where the activity is taking place
Students who are under the direct supervision of a faculty member
We expect students to recognize and abide by school boundaries:
Those who have a reason for leaving the school campus during the school day must have a signed note from a parent or guardian and must sign out from the Middle School Office.
The parking lots are considered out-of-bounds during the school day.
Students may not walk on or off campus at the beginning or end of the regular school day without a Student Gate Pass. A Student Gate Pass (previously a Walker’s Pass) may be obtained by completing the necessary form on JISNet (Risk Management). Parents are required to complete the form, students may not do so for themselves.
Students may not leave campus in the middle of the day without written permission from their parents (via email: msoffice@jisedu.or.id) and a gate pass obtained from the middle school office.
JIS MS students play a crucial role in keeping our school campus clean because they are the primary users of our facilities. It is their responsibility to help maintain a clean and healthy learning environment by properly disposing of trash, keeping classrooms, the Wantilan, common areas and other JIS spaces tidy. When students actively participate in keeping the campus clean, they contribute to creating a positive learning environment, promoting health and safety, and demonstrating a sense of responsibility and respect for our school community. By taking ownership of the cleanliness of their school campus, students develop valuable life skills, including teamwork, leadership, and respect for self and others. Ultimately, when students play an active role in keeping their school campus clean, it benefits everyone in the school community.
Students are expected to follow the instructions of teachers and school staff at all times. In cases where students have deliberately failed to follow instructions given by faculty and staff, they will be referred to the Associate Principal. Infractions may result in detention, while patterns of disobedience may result in suspension and possible recommendation for withdrawal.
Students are expected to bring earbuds and/or headphones to school to enable them to listen to videos and audio files in lessons. Students are not allowed to use headphones/ earbuds between 7:00-3:15 unless specifically requested by the teacher for learning purposes.
Students may not chew gum in classrooms and may only consume food* or drink in classrooms with their teacher’s approval or for special school-approved parties or meetings. Food in classrooms is not considered a regular part of classroom activity.
As a policy, no food or drinks (other than water) are to be taken into or consumed within our School Gymnasium facilities.
* Please note, due to the risk of harming others who may have food allergies, we advise students not to bring food to school to share with their class that contains nuts.
Students are not permitted to order food in from external vendors using Grab, Gojek or other delivery services. Food which is delivered to school will be kept at the gate until the student or parent organises the food to be sent to another address/location. Parents are also not permitted to order food deliveries for their children, however they may drop off a food package personally.
This policy is designed to support student wellness and well as reduce our environmental footprint and prevent packaging wastage. For more details please see the food services policy.
The Cilandak campus has two mosques- one located next to the K module in middle school where students can pray during their breaks. There is also a larger mosque located in G module, in High School, which students can attend on Fridays for Dhuhr prayer. Students are welcome to attend Friday prayer but parents must inform the MS Associate Principal vias email that they give consent for their child to miss part of their block 3 class on Fridays.
Identification (ID) cards that use RFID technology are issued to all students and parents. Students are expected to have their ID on them at all times whilst on campus and show it as requested. Student ID is required to check out materials from the library and to pay for food from the cafeteria. Students who lose their IDs should report this to the office.
Parents are required to show their ID when entering the campus and are expected to wear their ID while on campus. Visitors to campus can obtain a Visitor ID when they enter the campus only through the Terogong Raya entrance and in exchange for another form of identification.
Because so many cultures and age groups coexist at JIS, it is important that students demonstrate an attitude and behaviour that are acceptable to people of various cultural and ethnic backgrounds and age groups. Students should refrain from using inappropriate language, in English or any language, as a JIS student on the JIS campus, on school transportation, or any JIS event.
To be updated
Unless being used in class as part of the learning process, we expect students who bring electronic items to school to keep them in their bags or lockers until the end of school. This includes phones. If a child needs to use their phone, they can come to the MS office during a break, lunch or with teacher permission. Students may NOT take photos or film school performances.
The following substances are deemed as prohibited on our campus or during school events for legal, health and safety reasons; this policy also applies to school transportation
Tobacco
The school cannot philosophically condone a practice that is hazardous to the health and safety of a student and those around them. Therefore, use of tobacco products on campus or at school activities is prohibited at all times. Students smoking or chewing tobacco or found in possession of tobacco on campus or at school activities are subject to sanctions.
E-cigarettes
The use of E-cigarettes (also known as Vapes) is prohibited at all times on campus, at school activities or on school transportation.
Alcohol
Students may not possess, consume or be under the influence of alcohol on campus at any time or at any school-sponsored activity or trip. “Under the influence” is strictly interpreted to mean affected in any way by the consumption of alcohol, no matter how small the quantity. Alcohol and substance abuse violations are cumulative from year to year.
Illegal or Synthetic Drugs
Any illegal drug (including synthetic drugs), or drug that has not been prescribed by a doctor for a student, or approved by the school for medication purposes, is not allowed to be consumed, sold or provided, nor are students permitted to be under the influence (similar definition as above) of this drug, on campus or at any school-sponsored activity or trip.
Students who are taking approved medication must not, under any circumstances, share or provide this medication to another student.
Should a student be required to complete a drug test, we will follow guidelines set by whole school policy.
We expect students not to engage in Public Displays of Affection (PDA). JIS students, parents, staff and faculty come to us from over 50 countries. We expect students to behave in a manner that is respectful and not insulting to others. Although the mass media may portray displays of affection as the norm, it is not the norm on our campus. In fact, it is considered to be highly inappropriate to many in our JIS community.
All socials are supervised by middle school faculty. We expect students to follow the rules for school-sponsored events.
Students attending school-sponsored socials are expected to arrive promptly and must stay until the event has ended. Students are not permitted to wander around campus during these functions.
All regular school rules apply.
Students may not leave until the event ends. In order to ensure the safety of all students, requests to leave early will not be granted.
Students who are absent from school on the day of the social are not allowed to attend, unless special permission is given by the Principal.
With the exception of PTA representatives, parents are not able to attend middle school socials
We expect students to respect school property and the property of others. Students who deliberately or maliciously vandalise or destroy property other than their own will be financially responsible for the damage caused and subject to other appropriate discipline. Stealing will not be tolerated. Theft is considered an illegal offence, the consequences of which include possible expulsion.
Weapons, including firearms, knives, box cutters, explosives, ammunition, or any other dangerous weapons, are strictly prohibited on campus or during school events for safety reasons; this policy also applies to school transportation. This includes replicas or toys that resemble weapons. For further information, please Risk Management.
As a community of care, at times JIS administration may become involved if off-campus behavior involves the following:
if the behaviour negatively affects other JIS students, and is reported to an administrator
If the behaviour is deemed ‘at risk behaviour’ and needs to be reported to family or other support personnel.
Please read the MS Travel Behavior Policy and Procedures for school trip expectations.
