Week of September 21-25

Bible: 

Learning Targets: 

In the upcoming week students will be learning  the main themes from the book of Hebrews. We will learn the identity of Jesus as the ultimate sacrifice and high priest. In addition, we'll continue to learn from our Bible Internalization passage and reflect on our theme with Spiritual Emphasis Week questions and assemblies.

Friendzy: As we start the 2026-2027 school year, unit one of our Friendzy curriculum is ‘Ohana-Stick together! It addresses the important topic of community.  One of our key Bible verses for this unit is Romans 12:9-10 which says, “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourself.” The other is Hebrews 13:1 which states, “Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.” This month our school will focus on understanding how we can accomplish more together as a community of believers than any of us ever could alone.

Math:

Targets: 

This week in math we will review our DELTA math concepts before taking the DELTA assessment. After the assessment, we will begin our next unit on Chapter 3: Parallel lines and angle relationships (we come back to Chapter 2 later). Students will learn various relationships, understanding when angles are congruent and supplementary.

Algebra:

Targets: 

This week in algebra,  we will begin Chapter 2 on inequalities. Students will use prior knowledge from our content in Chapter one, now applying it to inequalities instead of equalities. We will learn to graph these inequalities on number lines and which rules make the symbol "switch".

Language Arts: 

Targets: This week, we will continue reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. This dystopian sci-fi novel is about a 12 year old boy named Jonas. Throughout the reading of this story, we will explore important themes (conformity, autonomy, etc.) and analyze Jonas' character development.

Side note: If you have read The Giver,  please refrain from sharing any spoilers! 

Homework:  

• Finish summative writing by end of class Friday (class work time will be provided on Thursday and Friday)

Assessment:

• Summative writing paragraph (due Friday at the end of class)

• Knowledge Quiz (on Knowledge Organizer terms) on Friday

Science: 

Learning Targets: 

In the upcoming week students will learn how to calculate density of an object, the relationship between weight and gravity, and identify what substance have more inertia. We will review this concpets at the end of the week for an assessment.

Assessments:  Physical Science Test - Friday, September 25.

Social Studies: We will begin our week by looking at the 7 Years War and how it directly led to the American Revolution.  We will also explore how the war affected both America and Europe in positive and negative ways.  We will also read one of the first anti-slavery tracts in America, and how the author used religious arguments to counter slavery.
