Week of September 28-October 2

Bible: 

Learning Targets: 

In the upcoming week students will be finishing thier unit on the main themes from the book of Hebrews. We will learn the identity of Jesus as The High Priest and discover how to draw near to God. In addition, we'll continue to learn from our Bible Internalization passage and lead our 5th grade buddies in a Friendzy lesson.

Friendzy: As we start the 2026-2027 school year, unit one of our Friendzy curriculum is ‘Ohana-Stick together! It addresses the important topic of community.  One of our key Bible verses for this unit is Romans 12:9-10 which says, “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourself.” The other is Hebrews 13:1 which states, “Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.” This month our school will focus on understanding how we can accomplish more together as a community of believers than any of us ever could alone.

Math:

Targets: 

This week in math we will continue our lesson on Chapter 3: Parallel lines, angle relationships, and triangles. Students will learn how to find missing interior and exterior angles in a triangle. We will also learn about regular shapes, identifying interior angles and angle sums based on the number of sides a shape has. We will finish by learning about similar shapes and how this relates to congruence.

Algebra:

Targets: 

This week in algebra,  we will continue Chapter 2 on inequalities. We will assess with a quiz on the first half of the chapter at the beginning of the week, and finish our content at the end of the week. We will review and assess the second half next Monday. Students will continue to use knowledge from chapter 1, applying it to inequalities. We will see how absolute value and "and/or" statements affect the graph of an inequality

Language Arts: 

Targets: On Monday and Wednesday, students will be taking the Language Usage MAP test. The other days this week, we will continue reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. This dystopian sci-fi novel is about a 12 year old boy named Jonas. Throughout the reading of this story, we will explore important themes (conformity, autonomy, etc.) and analyze Jonas' character development.

Side note: If you have read The Giver,  please refrain from sharing any spoilers!

Science: 

Learning Targets: 

In the upcoming week students will begin a new unit on chemical reactions and solutions. We will build  our understanding of how particles behave and see how they combine.

Homework:  Unit Targets (Green Sheet) - #1 - 4 (Friday, October 2)

Assessments:  None

Social Studies: We will begin our week by finishing up the French and Indian War by discussing its ramifications for the American colonies.  We will then explore some of the beliefs of the Founding Fathers and the political philosophers who inspired those beliefs.  We will then have our test on the English colonies on Friday.

Assessments: Test on Friday, 10/2/26.
