Week of September 14-18

Bible: 

Learning Targets: 

In the upcoming week we will be transitioning to our next unit about the main themes from the book of Hebrews. We will learn the identity of Jesus and his atonement through this book. In addition, we'll lead our 5th grade buddies through a Friendzy lesson and work on our Bible internalization of John 15.

Friendzy: As we start the 2026-2027 school year, unit one of our Friendzy curriculum is ‘Ohana-Stick together! It addresses the important topic of community.  One of our key Bible verses for this unit is Romans 12:9-10 which says, “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourself.” The other is Hebrews 13:1 which states, “Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.” This month our school will focus on understanding how we can accomplish more together as a community of believers than any of us ever could alone.

Math:

Targets: 

This week in math we will review and wrap up our first unit in Chapter 1, single-step and multi-step equations. We will review the steps to solve for our variable as well as when an equation has infinite solutions or no solutions. We will also review how to rewrite equations before we take a test mid-week. After assessing, we will spend some time reviewing for the DELTA that we will take end of week. (Reminder that practice IXL codes are posted in the google classroom).

Algebra:

Targets: 

This week in algebra,  we will wrap up Chapter 1 learning about single and multi-step equations. We will first take a quiz on the second half of the chapter before we spend a day in review and take two days to test (Since it is test 1).

Language Arts: 

Targets: Students will take the Reading NWEA (MAP) test on Monday and Wednesday. On the other days this week, we will continue reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. This dystopian sci-fi novel is about a 12 year old boy named Jonas. Throughout the reading of this story, we will explore important themes and analyze Jonas' character development.

Side note: If you have read The Giver,  please refrain from sharing any spoilers!

Science: 

Learning Targets: 

In the upcoming week students will review their particle model for matter, lab work, and the five parts of a controlled experiment to prepare for their upcoming assessment.

Assessments:  Unit 1 Labs (1-3) Test - Wednesday, September 16.

Social Studies: We will begin to look at the origins of British settlement in the Americas and what that looked like.  We will also compare the living conditions and freedoms enjoyed by British settlers vs. the settlers in New France and New Spain.  Finally, we will look at the 7 Years War and what the ramifications of the war were for North America.
