Google finally created a way to set up breakout rooms in advance of a Meet, but as of right now it's only with Meets that start in Google Calendar. The meeting link is first created in Google Calendar, and attendees must be invited as guests to the calendar event to use this technique.
To try this:
1) Go to calendar.google.com and click on a blank space in your calendar to create an event. Click "more options" at the bottom.
2) Give your event a title and invite your guests on the right side.
3) Click on the settings gear to the right of the "Join with Google Meet" button. Click "Breakout rooms" on the left side.
4) Set up your breakout rooms and click save.

This interactive set of Pear Deck activities is designed to help your students practice mindfulness, meditation, and self-awareness.
They can be used together as a unit, or separated to add to your other lessons for a short break. On some slides, audio prompts guide students through breathing, visualization, and awareness exercises.
As with any Pear Deck template pack, you’re welcome to make a copy and edit as needed for your own class.
As we all know, this year has been far from normal, but I wanted to take a moment to give a shoutout to Shelby Lofgren, and the staff and students at West Elementary for their awesome virtual musical! Each class performed a song from somewhere in the world, and we got to use some green screen technology to place each group in their country. The last song might tug at your heartstrings--Mrs. Lofgren was able to merge all 1st grade class recordings into one sound! Great job everyone!
These images were shared from another district that has gone through the update.
Teachers will be able to see their presentation window next to student tiles. No more "you are presenting" notification. Teachers will also be able to "unpin" the presentation window to see more students without affecting their view.
Teachers will be able to both see their presentations and their students in a grid without having to use two screens.
The “you are presenting” box will been removed.
Everyone inside a meeting (both teachers and students) will be able to unpin the presentation so that it becomes a part of the grid and allows you to see more people on the call.
The bottom bar will always be visible, won't interfere with captions or user tiles.
The activities button, polls, Q&A, breakout rooms, chat panel, people panel, meeting details panel and meeting safety panel will be moved to the bottom right of the Meet to provide people with more vertical space.
The end-call button will be distant from the camera and microphone buttons to prevent accidental hang ups.
