Every Google Classroom automatically creates a Google Calendar. While this goes unnoticed more often than not, there is a way to share this information with families so that you can provide a safe and secure window into classwork and associated due dates to families without sacrificing student privacy.

Assignments that are in the past are a lighter color, and upcoming assignments that are due are darker. If you click on an assignment, you'll see the assignment details, in addition to a direct link to the assignment. Assignments post to their due date, so be aware that you may need to look ahead in your calendar to find those posts.

To view Google Calendars, go to calendar.google.com and select the calendar you want. Your calendar will always be first in the list. Hover over the Google Classroom calendar you want, and then click the three dots and choose "display this only" to see just that calendar. You can also choose "settings and sharing" to open up a calendar to your families. Scroll to "Access and permission for events." Events in this case are assignments. Check the box that says "make available to public" and make sure it says "see all event details.

Here is the public view of my calendar in Google Classroom. It defaults to the month view, but I recommend clicking agenda to view things a bit differently. Families can click on assignments to view details! I hope you find this a valuable way to share assignment details to families.
