Refer to prior learning throughout the lesson to strengthen working memory

Use phrases like “Remember when we learned about” or “Today we are building on prior learning by…”

Make cross-curricular connections when teaching new concepts 

Revisit key vocabulary terms from prior learning and use them actively in the lesson

Use think-pair-share to encourage children to share their thoughts and make connections to new topics 

Display key terms, diagrams or symbols from previous lessons in the classroom to refer back to

Teach children mnemonics or acronyms to recall key information

Pose questions such as, “How does this connect to what we have learned before?” Or “How can we use what we already know to understand this new concept?”

Use pit stops or mini-plenaries throughout lessons to recall what has been taught so far
