In GA, there are also EMC’s Research EMC’s policies about their solar programs. EMCs have a high monthly customer service charge and usually charge a solar charge for homeowners that want to have solar systems installed. The best practice with EMC’s because all provide net metering, and some EMCs do solar buybacks. The Best practice would be to design a system to offset about 30-50% of their current usage consumption and supplement the solar with a battery backup. Having a battery backup will ensure that you use some of the production that would’ve been exported to the grid with your home. Also, a way to take advantage of state and federal incentives solar their consumption from the grid and save some money.

Make sure your system is smaller than 20 kilowatts (kW), is located at your primary residence, and your installer has the standard NABCEP certification. Maryland has set a renewable portfolio standard goal to produce 2.5 percent of its electricity from solar resources in 2020, and you can get paid to help. Under this program, you are granted one Maryland SREC for each megawatt-hour (MWh) of clean electricity your panels produce, which you can then sell in the SREC market.

Mississippi is one of only six states in the nation without statewide net metering standards in place. Net metering remains completely at the discretion of utility companies. That’s a raw deal for Mississippi homeowners. Unless you happen to live in the TVA service area, it might be difficult to figure out how your panels will affect your electricity bill.
Here’s how Mississippi Power refers to its net metering policy: "the rate paid for electricity placed on the grid by a net metered customer is 2.5 cents/kWh above the company's avoided-cost rate, ” which “currently ranges from 2.29 to 3.62 cents/kWh.” (at the time of this writing; late 2020).
Every 15 minutes, Mississippi Power will determine how much solar energy your system sends to the grid and credit you about 5.5 cents/kWh for it. They’ll happily charge you an average of 7.5 cents/kWh for the energy you buy from them when the sun isn’t shining.
