Understanding of the “gender gap” in access to resources, privileges, entitlements and choices
Development policies and practices have a differential impact on women and men. This programme is primarily meant for all those who have an interest in gender and development issues, who would like to pursue work in gender and development related areas or are already engaged in the field through related institutions or organizations either in the governmental or the non-governmental sectors. This necessitates an understanding of the “gender gap” in access to resources, privileges, entitlements and choices. Consensus has evolved around the need to explore the “gender gap” in key development sectors and how this gap can be bridged in order to achieve gender equality and empowerment of women. There is now greater emphasis on mainstreaming gender perspectives into the development process. This will contribute to building a gender-sensitive rubric of development, recasting development theory and action in the “direction of improved living standards, socially responsible management and use of resources, elimination of gender subordination and socioeconomic inequality as well as to promote the organizational restructuring required to bring about desirable change.”

Programme Objectives
The programme seeks to enable learners to:
analyze extent of gender-sensitivity of development interventions;
conduct gender analysis;
critically analyze gender differentials in selected development sectors;
identify appropriate research designs and methodologies for a range of research problems;
suggest positive affirmative action in development planning and practice to promote gender equity and equality

2 years (minimum) - upto 5 years (maximum)
Medium of Instruction
The medium of instruction of the programme is both Hindi and English.
Programme Fee
Rs. 7000/- per year Plus Registration Fee & Development Fee as applicable (University may revise the fee time to time. Please check with the advertisement or IGNOU website).
Programme Structure
The Programme consists of 5 compulsory courses and one compulsory 4 credits worth Internship or Field Based Research Project in the first year and 10 optional courses and one compulsory 4 credits worth Internship or Filed Based Research Project in the second year.
