Over the years with consistent rise in population, urbanisation and industrialisation, increasing demand for agriculture produce, has led to over-exploitation of limited surface as well as groundwater resource. This has also resulted in sharp decline in groundwater table. The situation can be effectively reversed through rainwater harvesting which essentially means collection and storage of the rainwater from rooftop or from surface catchments for future use. Despite various initiatives including legislative measures, very little rainfall is conserved and harvested. This certificate programme intends to generate mass awareness and disseminate skills through trained human resources, about rainwater harvesting techniques and management for the optimal use of harvested water by all concerned.

Programme Objectives

Following are the objectives of the CWHM programme:

  • To sensitize and educate learners on augmentation and utilization of water resources.

  • To impart necessary skills and expertise to understand water harvesting techniques.

  • To enable learners to act as trainers and organizers at household and community levels for efficient water management in terms of its usage and also for water conservation.

Features of the Programme

Features of the Programme

This programme consists of our course: three theory and one practical. Those who have opted for hard copy of study materials, the same will be sent to the student’s registered address through post. Those who have opted for online study materials as well as other learners can accessed the study materials through the e-gyankosh portal, IGNOU e-content app as well as WEAS portal.

Counselling sessions: IGNOU provides counselling (theory and practical) as well as interaction with experts and peer-group through study centre as well as through WEAS portal to facilitate them in teaching-learning process in order to complete the programme of study. The teaching-learning process is facilitated by the theory/practical counselling sessions at study centre, interactive radio counselling (IRC) sessions in Gyanvani and Gyandhara, Teleconferencing (TC) session through Gyandarshan, web-counselling session through WEAS platform as well as through Discussion Forum.

Assessments are of two types viz. Continuous Assessment (Assignment and Term-end examination (TEE) and Practical (guided and unguided experiments at study centre). The weightage of continuous assessment (Assignment) and term-end examination are 30% and 70%, respectively for course ONR-001, ONR-002 and ONR-003. Similarly, in course ONRL-001 (practical assessment), the guided experiment and unguided experiment (practical exam) have weightage of 70% and 30%, respectively. It is essential; to score 35% marks in assignment, term-end examination and practical examination evaluation individually and as a whole to complete the programme.

Examination: The term-end examination is conducted twice-a-year during June and December. The weightage of term-end examination is 70% of the theory component.
