Programme Objectives

The aim of this programme is to enable/ acquire understanding of the Urdu language and literature beyond the Certificate level.

This course help students to develop the understanding of Urdu Prose and Poetry.

It also covers the art of creative writing, techniques of translation, editing and publishing etc.

Programme Fee

The fee for the entire programme Rs. 1,800/- plus Registration fee of Rs.300/- (University may revise the fee time to time. Please check with the advertisement or IGNOU website).

The programme consists of the following 4 theory courses and a project. Course OUL-003 is of 8 credit and and rest 4 courses are of 4 credit each. 1 credit = 30 hours of self study. Thus, the DUL course is 24 credits as detailed below.

1. How do I get admission in this Programme?

A. If you are fulfilling the criteria, get enrolled yourself in this programme at IGNOU website.

2. Do I need prior knowledge of Urdu language to join this programme?

A. Yes, you need prior knowledge of Urdu language to join this programme.

3. Is there any minimum requirement of Urdu language to take admission?

A. 10th pass (with Urdu as one of the subjects) or its equivalent or a Certificate in Urdu language from IGNOU.

4. How many times does the University conduct examinations in a year?

A. The University conducts examinations twice a year i.e. June and December

5. Will I be able to speak Urdu with proper diction after doing this course?

A. Yes, after completing this Programme you would be able to read, write and speak Urdu language fluently with proper diction.

6. Will I forget Urdu after a gap?

A. No, after the completion of this programme you will develop a very good understanding of Urdu language.

7. As a degree holder in science, am I eligible to enroll in this Programme?

A. If you have prior knowledge of Urdu and you are fulfilling the criteria then you are eligible for this Programme.

8. Can I make payment in installment?

A. No.

9. Can I pursue two courses together?

A. Yes, provided one of them is a Certificate Programme.

10. How can I change my Examination Centre?

A. While filling in the examination form, mention the code of the centre from where you intend to appear for the examination. Before mentioning the said code please make sure that the centre you are opting for is activated for the Programme of study which you are appearing at the examination.

11. What if I am not able to complete my course in given time?

A. If you want to continue the course you will have to go through the re-admission process.

12. Can a student enroll from a place where there is no Partner Institute?

A. Since the Partner Institute provides student support services like acceptance of admission forms/ re-registration forms, evaluation of assignments, forwarding of assignments grades to IGNOU and conduct of exams/ viva for the project in the absence of any Partner Institute, the IGNOU programme cannot be offered from a place where there are no Partner Institutes.

13. When does the learner become eligible for obtaining the final degree?

A. The candidate who completes assignments, theory papers, practical, project and viva becomes eligible for the award of degree by the University. However, the Degree is conferred at the convocation of the University but until the final degree is awarded the “provisional certificate” is issued to the learner. The student is provided Grade Card and Provisional Certificate of the completion of all the required courses and after the minimum duration of the programme.
