Programme Objectives

The programme focuses on skill and competences development having both professional and academic proficiency leading to job opportunities and over all development. Thus, the learner will be able to:

  • Attain fundamental understanding of theory and practice.

  • Describe the concept of Indian Art Practices and Aesthetics in historical and contemporary context.

  • Demonstrate elements and principle of art trough drawing and painting.

  • Use of Material and Technique for Drawing and Painting.

  • Observe, analyze and create an Art Work.

  • Work independently to research, identify and develop own style and express through chosen medium(s) to become a professional Artist.

Admission

The programme is offered in July academic cycle only.

Medium of Instruction

The medium of instruction of the programme is English.(Although the SLM will be given in English, students will be allowed to complete their assignments and exams in Hindi also.)

Eligibility Criteria

Bachelor of Arts - Drawing and Painting OR Bachelor in Fine Arts / Visual Arts OR Bachelor degree in Design/ Fashion Technology / Textile / Animation

Duration of the Programme

Minimum duration of the programme is 2 years and the maximum duration is 4 years.

Programme Fee

The programme fee is Rs. 8250/- per year. Please refer to the Common Prospectus or IGNOU website for any update.

Programme Structure

The programme consists of the 4 Theory courses and 8 Practical

(Total - 64 Credits, Theory - 24 Credit and Practical - 40 Credits, 1 credit = 30 hours of self study) each.

  • MVA-020 : Modern Art of India, Theory (6 Credits)

  • MVAL-021 : Understanding Elements of Arts, Practical (4 Credits)

  • MVAL-022 : Study of Principle of Composition, Practical (6 Credits)

Semester - II

  • MVA-023 : Modern Western Art, Theory (6 Credits)

  • MVAL-024 : Study of Nature, Practical (4 Credits)

  • MVAL-025 : Study of Folk, Tribal and Traditional Art Styles, Practical (6 Credits)

Semester - III

  • MVA-026 : Understanding, Aesthetics and Art Education, Theory (6 Credits)

  • MVAL-027 : Creative Portraiture, Practical (4 Credits)

  • MVAL-028 : Creative Composition, Practical (6 Credits)

Semester - IV

  • MVA-029 : Research Methods and Dissertation, Theory (6 Credits)

  • MVAL-030 : Creative Landscape, Practical (4 Credits)

  • MVAL-031 : Creative Expression, Practical (6 Credits)

Programme Delivery

The Programme will be delivered through multi-mode like Web Enabled Academic Support (WEAS) and 15 days studio practice in semester at PSC – 07187P, SOPVA, IGNOU Headquarters, New Delhi only (Under Regional Centre Delhi 1).
