Out in a far distant area of space known as the “terminator zone,” some planets have been found that could possibly house life. The title of the zone might be misleading, but it is more commonly known as the “ending zone.” These planets that have been found appear to not rotate, meaning that one side is always facing its star (in daylight), and the other is in darkness (night) forever. In these areas of the planet, the conditions would be suitable for water year-round. Therefore, this planet could house life in theory.
However, it has been found that the “dayside” of this planet would have temperatures too hot for habitability, and that the “nightside” would be too cold for habitability. A co-author of Aomawa Shields said, “‘These new and exotic habitability states our team is uncovering are no longer the stuff of science fiction—Ana has done the work to show that such states can be climatically stable.’” According to this statement, there still could be hope to find enough land to both house life and have a stable climate.
