Messi or Ronoldo? This is a question that has been asked for ages. Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro plays for the team Portugal. Ronaldo was born on February 5, 1985 in Funchal, Portugal and is 38 years old.  He has been playing soccer from a very young age and was always very competitive. He would cry if one of his teammates messed up.  At the age everyone else was learning soccer, he was already practicing for hours after school. 

Lionel Andrés Messi plays for the team Argentina. Messi was born on June 24, 1987, in Rosario Argentina and is 35 years old. As a 17-year old boy, he became the youngest official goal scorer in the country’s highest division of soccer. He was diagnosed with a growth hormone disorder, or GHD, as a child, which you can tell when comparing his height to Ronaldo. Messi is 5’7, and Ronaldo is 6’2.  In addition to height, there are several ways of comparing them to find out who is better.

One way of looking at this question is opinion. Boulevard has asked 12 students at Woodmere Middle school to find out their opinion of who is the superior player: Messi, or Ronaldo? 4 said Ronaldo, and 8 said Messi. That means Messi wins for popularity.

Another way of looking at this question is statistics. Messi’s number of goals is 800 goals, and 297 club assists. Altogether, that is 1,097 as a score. Ronaldo has scored 827 goals, and 268 club assists. Altogether, that is a score of 1,095. That means Messi wins for statistics!

In conclusion, Messi won for stats by 2 points, and for popularity by 4/12 people. This makes Lionel Andrés Messi the superior soccer player when comparing him to Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro.
