Our Visit to the Church - 24th March 2023 by Jack
When I slowly arrived under the beautiful carved wooden archway, Mrs Evans directed me precisely into the church hall, where I would be spending the day.
When I arrived at the church hall it was quite big and all of the pupils were there with colourful bags and coats. After we sat down and started to watch a Cheeky Pandas video on a projector that Reverend Mat set up early in the morning.
In the end we finished the Cheeky Panda video and got sorted into our groups. Group 1 was Lily's group and Mrs Evans shouted out Group 2 as Mrs Evans shouted Ethan and Jack. I was extremely happy. Before long Mrs Evans commented we were with a tall kind man called Peter. After a while, Mrs Evans stated again that Group 2 were going up the tower.
When we got to the tower door the cold breeze hit us like a flying stick. It was freezing! Eventually, after some questions we began our way up the stairs, which were rocky and very hard to climb. When we finally arrived at the first room it was not the massive but it had massive ropes hanging down from the ceiling they had below on a carpet from 1-6 and one is the smallest and six is the biggest coming in at 310 kg which is phenomenally heavy.
After a while we began to go even higher. This climb was even harder because it had no handrail and it was even steeper than the first climb. When we got to the bell room it was astonishing! It had a metal bar hanging from the ceiling. The bells were massive, Peter then explained what they were for and how old they were. The tower were made when Henry VIII reigned the UK. In the meantime, we came down to the place where John was ringing the bells. It was astonishing how they rang.
Finally, we headed downstairs to where we were labeling and drawing what the beautiful wooden things were carved like the pulpit to the pews. Before long me and Ethan sat down to finish our drawings and write our descriptions . After some time we had a go on the microphone and Ethan was extremely funny.
After a while, we had a snack where me and Ethan made some funny jokes. When break finished we headed to Reverend Val where we would be doing some singing. We started off by singing Palm Sunday and some other songs related to Easter. It was very fun.
The lunch table was our next destination, here we would have our lunch. It was very tasty. After a while we made it out to the corridor where we made an Easter garden. It was very calming and it took us about fifteen minutes to make it properly.
In due course, we made our way outside where the other group had been. Dylan gave me his clipboard which he had just used. I was very excited and grabbed a sheet and had to find some interesting things around the Churchyard. Me and Ethan had a quick fun competition to find the oldest grave in the. The oldest one we found was 1701. We also had to find some smooth things, some rough things and all different sculptures around the yard.
After my group came into the hall we entered the nave which is the main part of the church to sing some songs and prayers.
I found the day extremely fun and funny at the same time. All of the activities weren't boring or seemed like there was no effort. All of the staff and volunteers were kind and helpful and I enjoyed myself a lot.

Athlete Visit
On Wednesday 18th May we have been visited by Team GB Olympic Athlete, Jamie Hull. He delivered an inspirational assembly about his career, achievements, training regimes, sacrifices made and resilience, and the highs and lows of his career and how they’ve recovered from the National Lockdowns. The pupils saw a live demonstration of scooting and circuit training led by Jamie. It was amazing.
We’re delighted to announce our school was chosen to join a nationwide cook-a-long event this National Vegetarian Week, in partnership with Cook School and Linda McCartney Foods!
Children have cooked Mary McCartney’s mini pies, using free recipe kits sent to us by Cook School.
We used these kits to guide the children to help them learn basic kitchen skills, and how to cook and enjoy this special veggie meal!
Cook School is a non-profit organisation that teaches children how to cook healthy vegetarian meals, by visiting schools in person, running digital cookery programmes, and sending out recipe boxes.
You can find out more about them at shop.cookschool.club @cookschoolclub
In 1991, Linda McCartney’s love of animals, the planet and food inspired a revolutionary new vegetarian food company, transforming the veggie food market with her plant-based range.
Mary McCartney, who has provided a special recipe to Cook School for National Vegetarian Week, is Linda’s daughter and a Global Ambassador for Meat Free Monday.

Our Federation of schools was fortunate enough to be invited to take part in an exciting project to produce a package of digital learning bundles for the World Heritage Site, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. We were delighted to be involved and staff have been consulted in helping to produce resources that are engaging and relevant to teaching about the locality.
Xplore! Wrexham helped with the project too and filmed the children in our schools demonstrating their 'build an aqueduct' and other activities. Edited extracts from the films will form part of the online resources. We had a fabulous time.
Feedback from the team:
'We hope the children enjoyed the sessions and learned a bit about the engineering challenges involved in building the aqueducts and canal. I think you have some budding engineers and scientists among your pupils!
It was good to see that even the younger children could tackle the aqueduct challenge too. We were so impressed by the group of relatively young ones at Ysgol Pentre as they worked so well as a team and produced one of the most effective solutions.'
On Thursday November 5th the whole school took part in the global Outdoor Classroom Day. We even made it into the Leader
