The Federation’s aims in setting homework are to support and extend pupil’s learning by practising and consolidating skills and knowledge, encouraging independent working and developing a partnership between home and school. Homework will come in a range of formats, for example, practice of key words, phonics, spelling, reading, maths, topic related work.
Homework is linked closely to the learning happening in school. It usually takes the form of project based learning around the children’s interests and encompasses the areas of learning and skills.
As parents, we value the part you play in the development of your child’s literacy skills in the home and in the environment to underpin the children’s understanding of purposes for reading. Working in partnership with the school, you as parents can make a real difference to your child’s development, confidence and self-esteem as a reader.
In Foundation Phase children bring home their reading book bags regularly and we encourage parents to read at home with their child and to work in partnership with the school in supporting the children as they learn to read. Homework is also sent home to reinforce learning in class.
In Key Stage 2 every piece of homework set will have been carefully selected to enhance the pupil's educational experience whilst developing their individual understanding and learning.
