In all Dee Valley Federation schools, we strive to make our curriculum appropriate to pupils’ needs and interests with teaching styles that develop positive attitudes to learning. The schools aim to provide a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum that gives varied opportunities to develop the essential skills of literacy and numeracy. Through the strong use of pupil voice and an integrated approach there are many opportunities for developing and applying these skills within a cross-curricular approach to learning.
The Foundation Phase curriculum covers seven areas of learning:
Personal and Social Development, Well-Being and Cultural Diversity
Language, Literacy and Communication
Mathematical Development
Creative Development
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
Physical Development
Welsh Language Development
The emphasis is very much on the children “doing” and learning through practical activities.
At Key Stage Two the focus of the curriculum is on further developing the essential skills of literacy, numeracy and digital competency with a balance of both subject specific and thematic approaches to learning. To develop these skills children are taught English, mathematics and science as core areas of learning and will be applying their skills across the curriculum in the following areas – Design and Technology, Information and Communication Technology, History, Geography, Art, Music, Physical Education, Religious Education, PSE and Welsh.
