At Dee Valley Federation it is our aim to ensure that our children grow up as informed and responsible adults. We aim to equip our children with the skills and information to be able to differentiate between accurate and inaccurate information, discuss a range of moral and social issues and perspectives on sex and sexuality, including different cultural attitudes and sensitive issues.
The overall objective of Sex and Relationship Education (SRE) is to help and support our children through their physical, emotional and moral development. This will enable our pupils to learn to respect themselves and others and move with confidence from childhood through to adolescence and then to adulthood.
Our SRE programme is not taught in isolation. It is firmly rooted in our PSE (Personal and Social Education) framework and Science schemes of work. The main SRE programme will be delivered through PSE lessons. In addition, certain biological aspects are also delivered through Science lessons as part of the Interdependence of Organisms topics.
Sex and Relationship Education takes place in Year 5/6. Parents are reminded that they can withdraw their children from all or part of the sex education provided.
