Flying Start

What is Flying Start?

Our Flying Start is part of a Welsh Government initiative aiming to provide quality childcare for children from 2-3 years of age. Following guidance from EPPE project (Effective Provision of Pre-school Education) 2003, which suggests that an early start for children in pre-school helps raise intellectual attainment and improves children’s social skills and equips them for life-long learning. The playgroup management and staff aim to provide a high quality environment to enhance children’s experiences and facilitate their development of important life skills such as emotional well-being, concentration and social interaction as well as providing a solid foundation for their future learning experiences.

What our Flying Start can offer your child

Who is entitled to attend?

Any 2-3 year old child living in the Flying Start catchment area, which you can check and apply for a place by visiting www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/flying-start/eligible-postcodes

Our opening times and availability:

It is a term time only service.  We run a morning session that runs from 9.00 am to 11.30 am and an afternoon session that runs from 12.30 pm to 3.00 pm

What if my child is not entitled to a free place?

We can offer a place for your child to attend our Flying Start if there is sufficient space available.  However, as we are not funded for this place, we do have to charge a daily fee.  The current cost per session is £7.50

Do you offer wrap around care?

Yes, we do offer a wraparound service that would enable your child to remain with us for both sessions.  Again, as we are not funded for this service, we do have to charge a daily fee.  The current cost per day is £10.00 for a child that is entitled for a free place and £20.00 per day for a child who is not entitled to a free place.
