Eco Committee

Pembroke Dock Community School prides itself on being an Eco School and holds the platinum award for ‘Eco Schools’ as well as being a gold award school for Sustainable Schools. We are now collecting the acorns as part of the Sustainable School award system.

Each year we try to make a difference to our environment through a range of activities and projects. At the beginning of the year we create an action plan using the information collected from an environmental survey. This plan helps us to decide what we are going to look at throughout the year.

Our Eco Committee is made up of a representative from each class throughout the school and we meet every half term to share ideas for projects and decide what our focus will be for the half term and if we need any resources/activities to ensure we can achieve our aim.

What a fantastic day Eco had with Year 3 completing workshops all around saving energy. Jennifer James arranged for use to have en immersive day and we loved all the different activities that we did. It ended in us having a pedal disco which was amazing and the whole upper school had so much fun taking part.

The first workshop was working with Aled to look at how much energy it takes to power light bulbs. We all had so much fun having a go on the bike to see if we could light up all the bulbs. It was harder that we thought it would be.

We then went to work with Jennifer. This work shop was all about saving the planet and what messages we need to get out to the community. We created our own signs and made sure they stood out with eye caching colours.

The final workshop we had was with Mr Phormula to create our energy rap. We decided to focus on saving energy as that is what we are trying to do across the school. We had great fun creating the rap and then performing it to Mrs Thomas. Pedalling the bikes for that long looked difficult for the teachers.

Eco Committee 2023 - 2024

Eco committee had a very exciting meeting with Jennifer James this week. We took part in some fun activities and made our own Eco Warriors. As part of the session we had a look at Energy Sparks to discuss our energy use as a school. We have decided to try and have an audit of the energy we are using when school is closed. We are hoping to use some devices on Jennifer's next visit to assess the items we feel are  using the most energy and try to combat this. We have some fun and exciting plans for the rest of the term.

Eco Committee have had their first meeting and were lucky enough to join Eco Warriors. As part of our work this year, we will working with Energy Sparks to help school save money on energy as well as creating our own projects. From our first meeting we have decided on a few points that we need to work on during our next meeting and to look at the information from the Eco survey to inform our action plan for the year. We are excited to see what we can do to help again this year!
