At Ysgol Llanfair Pwll, we are committed to understanding the needs of every learner and supporting them with their unique experiences throughout their education. One such group we aim to support is the children of Armed Forces personnel.

Our school recognises that a child from an Armed Forces family may need support at some point in their life — with their learning, settling into new situations and/or with mental health and wellbeing — as a result of their unique circumstances. This could be due to mobility, deployments, separation, transition, or educational and/or social needs.

To effectively support Armed Forces children and strengthen the Isle of Anglesey Council’s commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant, we hope to identify Service children who attend Ysgol Llanfair Pwll, to ensure support is available and to access funding where required. We can also work with Supporting Service Children in Education Wales (SSCE Cymru) to further develop our provision for Service children.

SSCE Cymru’s mission is to provide the best possible educational support for Service children in Wales. SSCE Cymru collaborates with organisations across the UK to build an evidence base that influences policy and systems. SSCE Cymru also provides a suite of resources to support education professionals and Service families across Wales, including toolkits, examples of good practice, newsletters, funding guides, a support directory and films. SSCE Cymru has four Regional School Liaison Officers for Armed Forces children, who can work with schools that have identified Service children to develop knowledge, embed good practice, and support access to relevant funding and training opportunities.
