Pupils also met members of the church during their visit.

This topic was chosen due to the 150th anniversary of the Mimosa ship leaving Liverpool for Patagonia in 1865. Pupils learnt about life in Wales during this time, the journey on the ship and what life was like when Welsh people arrived in Patagonia, particularly in Gaiman, Trevelin and Trelew. Pupils learnt about the strong links between Patagonia and Wales today. We learnt about how Welsh-Spanish schools in Patagonia celebrate Welsh traditions and celebration days such as St David's Day.

We learnt about the first even football match Wales played and how the team and football has evolved over the years. Our Criw Cymraeg pupils worked with local song writer and singer Bronwen Lewis to write a song, named Wales to Win, as part of our Welsh Heritage entry. Unfortunately we were unable to actually enter the competition due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
2023 From the Caribbean to Cymru- 1st place & winners of the Museum Wales Shield
This entry was based on The Windrush generation and the impact they had on our local and wider community. We engaged with a wide range of people who were part of the Windrush generation to gain an understanding of migration, racism and the collaboration of communities. The project encompassed the importance of cynefin. Our project work was presented through art, poetry, music, dance and extended writing. We further shared our knowledge though a Cafe Cynefin, a Welsh-Caribbean Carnival, a Diversity Day and a performance for parents.
2024- Castle on the Hill
This entry was based on medieval castles, starting with Baglan's very own castle, Plas Baglan and nearby Neath castle. This was a whole-school initiative and pupils researched and learnt about other castles across Wales. We also worked with Heritage Education Officer, Harriet Eaton who taught us about different types of castles and their defenses. Foundation Phase classes went to on a trip to Neath castle whilst Key Stage Two pupils visited Cardiff castle.
2025- Courage, Codes & Change
This entry was based on Port Talbot resident Kath Morris. Mrs Morris was a code breaker at Bletchley Park during World War Two. She celebrated her 100th birthday in 2024. Kath Morris was one of the inspirational warrior women who helped Britain win the War. This led us to learn about other Warrior Women in our lives and across Wales and celebrate their achievements.
