In 1875 Griffith Llewellyn (II) decided to gift the village a church. The building work took 7 years at a cost of over £17,000. The foundation stone was laid by Mrs Madelina Georgina Llewellyn on 26th June 1875. John Pritchard, an architect designed the building.
The first Griffith Llewellyn , his wife Catharine Llewellyn and their five children are buried in the cemetery. The second Griffith Llewellyn and his wife Madelina Georgina are also buried there.
Here is the original key from the official opening of St Catherine's Church in 1875. It has 'Mrs W Parr' engraved across the top.

St Baglan's Church
The remains of St Baglan's Church are situated in the grounds of St Catharine's Church.
St Baglan's church dates back to the 15th century. The church was gutted by fire in 1954.

Harvest thanksgiving services have always taken place in Baglan. Here is a newspaper report of a service at the church on 29th September 1876. Baglan primary school now collect donations for our local food bank as part of our Harvest thanksgiving celebrations.
