There are three hillforts on Mynydd-y-Gaer. These include: Buarth-y-Gaer, Craig-Ty-Isaf and Gaer Fawr. Also there are records of a medieval village on Mynydd-y-Gaer, although the exact location is uncertain. In the first half of the twentieth century, there were two colleries situated on the mountain.
