Diversity within Baglan Primary

As passionate as we are about celebrating our cynefin of Baglan, we understand that Baglan may not be the cynefin of all our pupils.

We felt it was important to share and celebrate the heritage of all our pupils at Baglan primary school. We asked pupils and parents if they had heritage from a country other than Wales and then held a Diversity Day to celebrate these cultures.

Pupils presented information on their heritage country to the whole school...we learnt so much! These countries were India, South Africa, Scotland, Lebanon, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Thailand and France. Please take a look at the recordings of these presentations below.

India

"We liked showing everyone the India map, the traditional clothing and diva lamps as part of our presentation."

Lebanon

"We liked showing all the lovely wooden handmade things we brought into school from Lebanon."

Scotland

"My favourite part of the presentation was sharing the Scottish National Anthem with all classes. I like listening to the instruments playing in the anthem."

Egypt

"I really enjoyed showing my Egypt presentation because I was able to share information on where my family is from."

South Africa

"We enjoyed showing classes everything about South Africa. We love South African food, especially boerewors which is a type of sausage. Boerewors means farmers sausage."

Thailand

"I enjoed sharing traditional Thai dancing because many people are inspired by these dances in Thailand."

France

"I enjoyed sharing with everyone the similarities in the Breton and Welsh language. Did you know...melyn and du have the same meaning in both languages?"

Italy

"We liked telling everyone about all the famous people from Italy. There are also lots more famous footballers from Italy."

Greece

"I enjoyed telling everyone about Greek food. My favourite Greek food is souvlaki because I like kebab meat, eggs and salad."

Here are examples of work completed by all classes as part of our Diversity Day celebrations.
