During World War Two, GI soldiers from America stayed at Margam park. There are many stories and memories in Port Talbot of these soldiers. They were known to hand out chewing gum and ladies tights, both of which were very new and unfamiliar items in the UK.
The above photograph is of General Dwight D. Eisenhower (Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force) at Margam castle on 1st April 1944.
Pupils wrote newspaper reports based on the GI soldiers arriving in Port Talbot.
