Family engagement
At Aberdare Park Primary our families are the beating heart of the school and we both appreciate and nurture that you, our families, are partners in your child’s learning and the key to their success. Every family is unique and different but you all have the same aims and values as the school to provide … ‘Your Child, Every Opportunity, Every Day.’
Investors in Families
We continue to develop and strengthen our links and approach with our families and the community, and in 2018, Aberdare Park Primary became an accredited ‘Investors In Families’ school. Investors in Families (IIF) is a quality mark that recognises the work that schools and other settings undertake with families to improve outcomes for children and young people.
The quality mark was awarded to the school as we demonstrated and provided evidence of our commitment to working closely with our families. In addition, in July 2021, the school received the Investors In Families Lockdown award in recognition of our efforts of going above and beyond for the children in our care, during the pandemic.
One of the core aims of IIF is to ensure that our families are not disadvantaged by poverty and in the Autumn Term the school signed a pledge with Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) to help make the school more inclusive for families in hardship. The school uses the Cost of the School Day calendar supplied by CPAG to help us identify possible cost barriers during the academic year, and think about some alternatives to make sure all our children can fully participate in education.

Busy Bees
The school’s Busy Bees sessions are a fun-filled, weekly link up group for children from 12 months. Attending this group will help you and your child familiarise yourself with the school’s safe nurturing environment, enable your child to socialise with their peers and begin to build trusting relationships with the staff.
During the sessions, your child will have the opportunity to participate in fantasy, social and structured play . ‘Play’ is an important part in your child’s development and helps to raise confidence, increase resilience, together with improving fine motor skills and coordination. In addition, each week the children will hear stories and sing songs in both English and Welsh to develop auditory skills and to establish a multilingual ethos in the school.
Family Focus
Termly, the school emails a Family Focus leaflet to our families. The leaflet, created by the school, provides our families with strategies, hints and tips on how they can support their children financially, academically and emotionally . The leaflets from April 2022, include more ‘pupil voice’ and staff now work collaboratively with the children. There is a plethora of videos, articles and information incorporated in the publications which have been submitted from the school’s…
